WEEK 8 S2: The Grid & Existing Buildings

In order to investigate the grid system that is employed in part of the building, and the structures used within the warehouses, I modelled the a large section of Building 30 (Body in White; the first stage of constructing the BMW mini):

The building follows a grid of 22500 x 20120mm, which can be narrowed down to 1125 x 1026mm. This grid dictates the larger framework of the structure, and it is broken down into smaller segments according to the structural columns that are put in place:





Once I understood the grid layout, I modelled the building using existing sections, plans and elevations for Building 30 below is an image of the columns in place, according to the spacings above:
