Over the last week I have decided that the project needs defined parameters, as there is a danger of attempting to tackle all of the problems with consumerism and thinking that everything can be repaired on the site. Realistically the space should have a few parameters:
Electrification & upgrading of vehicles
Deconstruct Vehicles (spare parts)
Household Appliances (kitchen equipment mostly)
Aside from these three central elements there will be a central workshop repair space, which will have different zones for each activity:
Skilled textiles
Skilled carpentry
Skilled small-scale hi-tech
These zones can be expanded over time, but I will focus on a few to incorporate within the initial design.
Developing the premise:
Reviving the Object: Taking objects that are neglected, under-utilised, or open for sharing. Then reviving life into the object by making it better than it currently is. This may also simply be done by allocating it to a new user who will utilise it to its full potential. Each item exits the building better than it entered. RESTORATION.
Managing the site
The buildings within the site will have to be large. However, I would want to have intimate spaces within the larger context. The diagram below demonstrates this concept by having spaces of varying heights at different levels:
I can almost imagine the site being developed in such a way that each zone is a 'mini city'. In a similar way from expanding from the Digital Cityscapes drawings:
This 'city' of repair zones can be covered by the parametric roof design:
Internally, I want there to be a sense of awe at seeing all of the different spaces, but I also want it structurally to be interconnected. I tried to create perspectives within the space, however I believe that they aren't successful and I haven't been able to communicate the ideas that I currently have of how the space should feel:
