I completed a mapping exercise to illustrate the places of repair that exist within Oxford. The criteria I used were places that specifically completed the repairing task and labour, as opposed to places that would just sell spare parts or elements pre-repair. Some of the places of repair include:
Car Garages
IT Repair centres
Clothing alterations
Gutter Repairs
Locksmith
Plumbing & Heating etc.
The mapping exercise helped me to see that the majority of repair facilities are within South East Oxford, and that the vast majority are places for auto-motives. It furthered my proposal of retaining elements of the exisiting Mini plant and adapting it for vehicle repairs and upgrading them towards Electrical engines. This element could take a large proportion of the site due to the size of vehicles.
The exercise also helped me to identify other potential industries that could be employed within the site. It also helped me to see how many hi-tech repair companies exist, and that the majority of them are concentrated within the city centre.
